Walter Hervey Thyer served with the 16th Australian Infantry Battalion of the Australian Imperial Force in WWI. He held the rank of Second Lieutenant.
He was killed in action in Gallipoli on 29 August 1915 aged 25 and is buried in Hill 60 Cemetery, Gallipoli Peninsula, Canakkale Province, Turkey.
His name is located at panel 81 in the Commemorative Area at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra.
