The name of this reserve honours the de Lacy family of notable swimmers, including 1936 Olympic swimmer Evelyn de Lacy.
It is said that the de Lacy children learned to swim in “Cow Dung Swamp” now De Lacy Reserve.
Back then, cows grazed in the swamp in summer, while in winter parts of the swamp would hold three to four feet of clear water.
Bayswater City Soccer Club Juniors train at the Reserve’s oval, which is also used for cricket.
